  • We were delighted to welcome BBC presenter Ore Oduba to our Playbus session in Rowley Gardens. He chatted to families about their Playbus experience, joined in singing and play activities with the children and found out more about what we do and how we work. We are so grateful for the funding received by @BBCCiN for our project that works with families living in homeless hostels. Hope to see you again soon @OreOduba!

  • Hackney Playbus was well postioned to cheer on the runners at the start/finish of the half marathon yesterday. A record 20 thousand runners took part in the race which had a real festival feel about it. Children enjoyed playing whilst waiting for friends and family to finish. Thank you to everyone who came along to say hello!

  • The artistic talents of the nursery class at Kingsmead Primary School have inspired the artwork for the new Hackney Playbus. Following a successful fundraising campaign, Hackney Playbus purchased a double-decker bus to replace their old Playbus, Bugsie, which fell into disrepair at the end of last summer. The new Playbus needed a new design, and the nursery class at Kingsmead Primary School chose a jungle theme to decorate the outside of the new bus, during an artist workshop.

Claire Ward-Thornton from Art Hoppers and Anna Van Der Poorten from Hackney Playbus worked with the nursery class at Kingsmead Primary School to create images that inspired the final design.

Ben de Sausmarez, Nursery Class teacher and Creativity Lead at Kingsmead Primary School said, “The children were incredibly excited to create their animal pictures, knowing that they were going to be on a great big bus! It’s wonderful to have them involved in a local community project such as this and for children of this age to see their creative work realised and valued in this way.”

The team also created a gallery space inside the Playbus to exhibit the children’s original drawings and ideas.

Claire Kelly, Director of Hackney Playbus, said “Thank you to Hackney Parochial Charities and all our donors and supporters who helped get our new Playbus on the road. And a big thank you to Kingsmead Primary School nursery class for sharing their ideas and creativity with us!”

The new Playbus is now on the road providing free play and learning opportunities for children aged 0-4 years in venues across Hackney.
